I'm still on the Green Chile Cheeseburger trail in New Mexico. But I couldn't resist straying off the trail and trying out Dog House Drive In on old Route 66 in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

This isn't the same dark chili with beans sauce we would get back in California. This is red New Mexico chili sauce. It's thin and spicy, and it goes really well with the split grilled skinless beef hot dog. It's a real treat, and Dog House Drive-In is easy to find right on old Route 66 near old town Albuquerque. It's worth the stop! And check out the sign at at when the neon doggie wags his tail.

I got lucky! I was in West Orange, NJ to visit the Edison Museum and it's around the corner from a unique sausage treat. But that wasn't the lucky part. The lucky part was arriving on a Tuesday which is Fat Tuesday at Jimmy Buff's Italian Style Jersey dogs -- double the sausage for free!

Hillbilly Hot Dogs in Lesage, West Virginia

Hillbilly Hot Dogs in Lesage, West Virginia is a real hoot. I stopped there last year for lunch during a cross-country road trip. It's not far from the 64 interstate freeway so if you are driving through West Virginia near Ohio you should make a visit. I first heard of Hillbilly Hot Dogs on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives with Guy Fieri.

I'm a big fan of Diners Drive-Ins and Dives although once in a while I don't find the places as top-notch as Guy Fieri thinks they are. So I am glad to report that I had an excellent lunch yesterday at Fab Hot Dogs in Reseda, California (in the San Fernando Valley just north of Los Angeles city and near Hollywood).

Fab Hot Dogs is in the corner of a shopping center on Victory Blvd., so there's plenty of parking. The place is clean and decorated pictures of the youth sports teams they sponsor. It wasn't crowded when I got there although I understand that even when it's crowded, the line moves pretty fast. There are some tables outside, too, although they look out over the parking lot.

Fab Hot Dogs in Reseda, California

You can get the dogs in a variety of flavors, and in 7" or foot long. You can also ask for any of the hot dogs as "Rippers" which means they are fried, although only the 7" dogs can be Rippers. I got the Reuben as a Ripper, which uses a beef and pork sausage which was really tasty. They piled on the sauerkraut and Swiss cheese, and there was bacon there, too. I'm not sure why there was bacon on there; maybe if you order a Ripper you get bacon, too?

So I really liked this place and would go back if I'm nearby.
